Sponsors

The Broadband Institute is an effective alternative for companies who need to conduct research that proves too costly or out of scope to be accomplished in their own R&D department. Pooling dollars with a community of sponsors multiplies research benefits substantially. For far less than the cost of hiring a scientist in-house, a sponsor can gain access to the work of more than 30 faculty, as well as have their own dedicated graduate level student within GTBI. Several levels of sponsorship are available:

Consortium
$40K
Consortium Membership (+ 1 student)
$70K
Consortium Membership (+ 2 students)
$100K
Consortium Membership (+ 3 students)
$125K
Customized research programs
$150K+

Consortium Sponsorship is the the first level of sponsorship. Institute sponsors have the opportunity to work with faculty and leadership on a common agenda and provide input on research directions. The cost of joining a consortium is $40,000 per year, renewable each year. Consortium funds are leveraged by federal and state matching, and sponsors receive first right of refusal to consortium-level intellectual property developed at GTBI during their sponsorship years.

Bilateral Sponsorship provides a higher level of interaction for a company. Besides all the benefits available to consortium members, funding a graduate level student allows a sponsor direct connections in the lab, driving projects of particular interest, and early access to the intellectual property developed in the research. The cost of supporting a student for such bilateral work is $35,000 per year, and the consortium fee drops incrementally for each additional funded student. Students can change annually or continue for a longer term. Also encouraged are internships of GTBI students with the sponsoring company, particularly during summer terms.

Customized Research Programs are the highest level of sponsorship and provide a mechanism for major bilateral intersection, typically involving multiple faculty. This level starts at $150,000 per year.

All sponsors are invited to the semi-annual Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) meetings held in the spring and fall. These meetings provide an opportunity to review consortium research activities, meet with faculty and fellows, visit facilities, and discuss directions and agendas for the coming months. These one-day meetings typically begin with a pre-event social the night before, and are held in Technology Square meeting spaces.

In addition, sponsors are allowed access to the member's only website, which contains IAB information, faculty project presentations and scope documents, research results, and other important information.
